Paediatric First Aid
Who is this course for?
This qualification is aimed at those who wish to become a Paediatric First Aider in the workplace with a responsibility for the welfare of infants and children. This qualification is intended for learners already working or preparing to work in industry.
Course Content:
This course will give you the confidence and knowledge to carry
out First Aid on infants and children. The course is split into 10 modules, these are:
- Emergency Action Plan
- Resuscitation
- Unconsciousness
- Airway and breathing problems
- Wounds and bleeding
- Poisons and burns
- Other serious injuries
- Other medical conditions
- Extremes of body temperature
- Useful advice
Assessment and certification
This qualification is assessed through practical and oral questioning through the duration of the course by the tutor with a 15 question multiple-choice examination at the end.
Successful learners must achieve a score of at least 10 out of 15.
Learners must practically demonstrate the application of the correct techniques in all the First Aid areas indicated within the learning outcomes of the unit.
Successful learners will recieve a certifcate and also a wallet-sized plastic card detailing their qualification.
This qualification lasts for a period of 3 years, after which point learners need to resit the course.
What are the benefits of this programme?
It is a requirement under the early years foundation framework that at least one member of staff is present who has attended and passed a Paediatric First Aid Course.
This course gives you the information to be able to assist in an emergency and includes amongst others, topics on resuscitation, choking, asthma, bleeding, head injuries, epilepsy, childhood ailments...and much more!
